Just read the Popular Woodworking review of hybrid table saws (Nov. ’07) and I was wondering what you all think of the Steel City table saw or the article for that matter.
Thanks.

I thought the article was better than most, though I rarely put much emphasis on any of them. He included a lot of detail, and included realistic criticisms of each that many leave out.
The Steel City hybrid is very similar to the popular Craftsman 22124, which enjoys a strong loyal following. The cabinet mounted trunnions are a great feature. SC has great customer service, and a good warranty. Should make for a great saw.

Thank you sir!!
Have a great Christmas!!
I'm very interested in the Steel City hybrid saw, and if it's actually on the market now, I might be able to go look at it at Summner Woodworks tomorrow. If I do, I'll post thoughts here. I'm especially interested in getting a close-up look at the splitter or riving knife it's equipped with. There's no way, looking at a magazine article, to evaluate that particular feature. Of course the fence, the adjustments, all that too.
I spoke to the Steel City rep a couple of weeks ago, and was told that the riving knife version wouldn't be ready until late February. Can't wait myself.
Has anyone used or seen the dustbag that comes with their portable planer? It has a motor in it that should compensate for the lack of a fan in the planer. I hate to order tools blind, and from the ads the bag doesn't look very big, though it should be easy to empty.
