Which one?.....

SC has two distinct versions of a 3hp cab saw. One is more like a 3hp hybrid that employs a beefed up version of the cabinet style trunnions used in their 35601 hybrid and the Craftsman 22124 hybrid...it's the 35606 AFAIK (there are variations with different fence options of the same model). The other is the 35621 and it's variations, which uses a trunnion system more like a Griz 1023, Uni, and other industrial grade 3hp cab saws.

Both seem like nice saws from I can tell, but price definitely plays a factor in how well they shake out against comparably priced saws.
There's a proud new owner of a 35621 (or similar) on Woodnet, and he seems very pleased. The smaller 35601 is nearly identical to the 22124 that's been very well received over the past couple of years. I know SC offers dealer support and a 5 year warranty. Orion is an associated company who makes some of the nicer Crafstman machines. FWIW, their service has been excellent in my experience. Many have been favorably impressed with the 18" BS, including "Sarge".

Thanks for the info! The 35621-type is the model that interests me. Happy sawing.
I ran some lumber through a 35621 today when I picked up my new SC jointer. Very well built and smooth running. I've already got the 18" SC band-saw.
Take a good look at how the trunnions are made on the 621 (all their cabinet saws for that matter). They are very beefy and well thought out where they were placed in the design scheme.

Yo Sarge! thanks for the info. You've convinced me. Happy woodworking!
I don't think you will regret it WP. I really had my eye on that titanium top model even though a little more. I helped SC demo'ing BS's at the Atlanta WW Show 2 weeks ago and they poured water on top of that titanium top TS around 10 AM in the morning and left it. When I left around 4 PM.. not a hint of rust. Don't do that with standard cast iron even with paste wax applied or you'll be sorry. :>)
But that one is a few hundred more and I know how budgets go. I had around $2000 maximum budgeted for a new jointer up-grade. I had an opportunity to get a 12" for $1800, but after reality struck home and a lot of tossing and turning, I got a SC 8". That left $1100 open toward an up-grade of TS's that I planned to make by late summer.
Redmond and Son Machinery here in Atlanta (SC distributor) bought a tractor trailer load of Delta X-5 Uni-saws re-conditioned and have sold over 100 at $1100. They dropped it to $999 for me as a return favor for helping at the WW show and I went home with a truck load of heavy iron.
The Uni-saw is not my first choice, but with that price I full-filled my goal of being completely up-graded without my lovely killing me in the next 2 years before I completely retire. Now I'm done!
Well........ those 20" planers do look kind of appetizing. ha.. ha...

Congratulations on the new hardware, Sarge. Unbelievable buy on the Uni-Saw. Please fill us in after you've had a chance to run some wood through the new tools.Bob
Will do Bob, as I'm in the not so fun part of de-greasing. Got em off the truck yesterday and sitting on mobile bases. Cosmoline is gone and re-heating the shop getting ready to lay Johnson's paste wax. Putting rails on, extensions, etc., etc. can wait and be done a little each night next week.
I'm in the last stages of finishing 4 chairs and an oak table, so it's been a juggling act this week-end. The good news is the final finish is down and I normally wait about two weeks for it to cure before I buff it out to bring the sheen down. So.... maybe by next week-end. Maybe being the key word. ha.. ha...

Don't lose that little jig for setting the rails, it looks like packing material!------------------------------------

Thanks DG... I don't have a clue yet as I have never been inside a Uni-saw. Where do they put them with the various boxes. And also, this a factory re-conditioned (even though they have gone over it extremely well and it almost looks new) with the markings with a end in XR or RX for reco.
I don't know if they put it in the same place or not, but I will key off your comment of "looks like packing material". Got the wax laid and will probably take the motor cover off shortly. There is a large brown paper wrapped package inside that is probably the hardware and hopefully the manual, etc. If not.. I'm going to wing what is obvious and anything not I'm getting on the horn here and asking for divine guidance. Story of my life.. ha.. ha...

It's an L shaped piece of pressboard. If you can't find it let me know and I'll send you a pattern. It's awful handy when installing the rails.------------------------------------

Sarge if you do lose that L-shaped spacing gauge for the rails, a combo square is a good substitute...you just have to get the dimensions from someone first.
Thanks KS...
I almost missed the post as it was too DG. I took the motor case off late last night and the package inside was the bolts for the extensions and the splitter hardware. I suppose the template and owners manual is in the rails or fence box?
If not... your suggestion is appreciated as the info that DG has already thrown out. Nothing like having an on-line pit crew capable of fine tuning with a stroke or two on a key-board.
Well.. let's go racing as I took today off to get this out of the way and I can get back to the "meat and tatters" of finishing that table. ha.. ha...

By the way..... they stuff things inside the rails sometimes, shine a flashlight down them, you should have an unobstructed viw from one end to the other.------------------------------------

Thanks again DG.. My company will sometimes slip a bag of small parts or decals in a muscle car replacement carpet rolled up. You get the call that the customer is missing the small parts. :>)
I just got through eating even though late here in Atlanta and headed down to pull that motor cover. As soon as I do, I'm headed for sleepy world. Un-loading two pieces of heavy iron yesterday has taken it's toll on the ole man.
