I looked at the Steel City Tool website and noticed that their tablesaw model 35601 looks a whole lot like the Sears saw 22124. Same 12 inch cast iron wings. The same three screw holes below the motor cover are present on each saw.
More repackaging of products from one manufaturer?

Orion makes the 22124 for Sears. Steel City and Orion are the same group of people. The SC and the 22124 are about identical except that the SC does not have a brand name Biese fence...it looks more like the Shop Fox Classic Biese clone.
Got any info on the Steel City 18" and 20" Band-saws. Sure look like the Jet 18" and 20" on the surface. The blades same length, the tables are a different size (but the blade removal slot runs front to rear as the Jet), weight similar and guide bearing are close from what I see. If I could see the guts, I would know.
There are differences that I won't mention at this point as I will see both of them side by side at Wm. J. Redmond & Son showroom here in Atlanta tomorrow. The big wigs from Steel City are here in town for the grand opening of Redmond's new showroom and warehouse.

Sorry Sarge, don't know a thing about those bandsaws, but I have a hunch by tomorrow night there'll be some useful info about them right here!
He......... You're probably right KS. I caught something in a local conversation several days ago and called Steel City tech in Tn. yesterday to confirm it. My BIL is looking (hoping) for a BS in the over 1K under 2K range.
What I can tell you is their is a big difference in the Jet 18 and Jet 20 in tension spring size. The J 18" uses a single tension spring and the J 20" has a double which increases spring tension. The guide bar on the J 20" is much more robust than the J18".
That's where the comparison will start as I suspect that the SC 16" (coming to a WW store near you in Oct.), 18" and 20" have the same double spring set up as the more expensive 20" Jet. But that only scratches the surface of what I suspect. Tomorrow I go in the trench and separate facts from suspicions.

Has he looked at the Minimax? A friend of mine grabbed an MM16 two years ago....what a great machine.
He has Scotty. He is a machine shop foreman at Delta Air Lines and also a former BMW mechanic. I had a deposit on a MM till I had to cancel two weeks ago as a medical problem arose that needs to be addressed, so he is well aware of MM.
His situation is, he has a small machine shop at home and most of the money is tied up there. He has a lot tied up in auto mechanic tools also, as he has a number of on-the-side customers from years ago. His wife isn't going to let him go full bore with tools for the WW side-line that he picked up from me. He is relegated to middle-of-the road as most of us with those constraints. He used to have use of my shop as I did his machine shop, but they bought a farm about 65 miles from me on the other side of Atlanta nearer the airport. So.......
