I took the winter off for my sons sports schedule but now it is time for me.
Many have recomended using steel screws when installing hardware for the first time and then switching out for the brass when the project is complete. The hype is correct and I always strip the soft brass.
Where can I get steel #2 pan head (1/2″ – 3/4″) wood screws for small hinges.
Any Thoughts

steel starter screws
Sorry. Pan head is not correct type. Flat head
http://www.mcmaster.com has flathead steel screws #2 x 1/2"
Assuming the proper size pilot hole and the proper size screw driver, Johnson's Paste Wax or Bar soap applied to the threads works for me. No issues in Cherry, walnut, mahogany. screwing in the brass screws directly. Have not tried lately on hard maple. Just drag the screw across the bar soap or stick it in the paste wax.
