Hey everyone! Just dropping in to say hi and tell you about my recent job . Very difficult stair handrail. Solid Red Oak to match the existing front hallway. The stair case was at a 42 degree rake if you can believe it! Very steep case! Costume fitting and measuring all the exact points of drilling, connecting, and securing can be time consuming so be sure to charge for your layout headaches. Fastening them securely is a must and equal distances between every visual direction takes a lot of common sense and experience per say. A very enjoyable puzzle. Pike

Hello s4s! I can only give you a pic of the pitch and material, 2ft section cut off, I used in this job. Word is out the client might paint the balusters but I hope not! :') Not many costume stairsmen out here I take it.? That's cool. I would be willing to help write a what not to do post- LoL! ..Pike..
After a flood in my house from a broken toilet tank on the third floor, there was much staircase damage. House built in the 20's. I had never thought much about how a staircase is made, but with the plaster off, the way that it was done in my case was a structural skirting board along the wall, with the treads and risers mortised in. Then, and outside and a middle stringer. 3 x 10, as I recall. So accurate was the board on the wall that there were no wedges, and the staircase had never squeeked. Renewed respect for the carpenters of days gone by.
