Hello,
I applied several coats of BLO onto my workbench.
The last layer was even diluted with turpentine, it dried very well on some parts of the bench and stayed sticky on other parts.
I think the problem is that I did not applied it even. The layer maybe to thick where it remains sticky?
How can I remove the sticky zones?

Tony,
I would try scrubbing with steel wool and a generous amount of naphtha. I've removed sticky linseed oil that way and it worked well. I doubt that it would hurt anything to try it. You could likely accomplish the same thing with mineral spirits. Others may have better ideas.

to Alan & nikkiwood,
yesterday I successfully removed the excess of BLO, the way you suggested.
Thanks for the advice.

Was there any old finish on the bench -- some other sort of oil perhaps?
I agree with Alan that scrubbing it down with paint thinner now is the best fix. I have never been much of BLO fan, expecially when applied in humid weather.
If you want some sort of oil finish I would try something like Watco Oil -- which is basically linseed oil with the addition of driers.
However, I prefer applying a thin coat of regular old paste wax to my bench. Dried glue drops will then just flick off with a scraper. Gezuar....
