Hi All,
I recently purchased a Veritas plane and there is a sticky section on the heal of the tote. I tried wiping it off with a dry paper towel but it’s still sticky. I wrote to Lee Valley about it. While I’m waiting for a response I was wondering if anyone has run across this before and if so how you resolved it. Not knowing what type of finish they used I didn’t want to use any solvent to get it off.
Thanks, Dean

That almost looks like there was a strip of clear tape on the heel. Did you try to rub it out with brown paper?
Hi Roy - I don't recall any tape or stickers on it when I opened the box but then I was too busy oohing and aahing to be sure. I did try paper towels, construction paper and even a little "spit" but, whatever it is, it's persistent.
I'd probably wipe it with a little alcohol. It won't damage the finish they use. But I don't get too precious about totes. It's going to see a lot of use and wear.
Thanks John. I'll keep that in mind if I don't hear from Lee Valley.
A handful of sawdust will lose the sticky and go away with use.
Not saying that is was sticker goo, but the times that I have had goo on something, a bit of WD40 would remove it most of the time. The product GooGone also works pretty well.
Another safe option is try Bestine which is a rubber cement solvent. If it is in fact sticker residue it will clean it up in no time.
I did get most of it off with DNA as John suggested. I would have been fine with it but Lee Valley wrote back that they were sending me a whole new plane body with a postage paid return box for the existing one. First time using their customer service and presently supprised!
