Hi everyone,
I’m looking to buy a stile and rail set this will be my first time trying to make a paneled door and a panel cutter. I have been doing a lot of searching on the internet and there is a lot of sets out there I’m looking to buy something decent that will last for some years to come and also a panel cutter. I’m hoping that some of you have suggestions on what set to buy and the panel cutter. I know that everyone has there own taste on what panel to use but which one is the most popular one I’m building a wall cupboard first one so the door will take me a while until I get it right on using the router bits and the router table any suggestions will help.
thanks
Steve

Chief,
I bouht a set from woodcraft about 6 months ago on sale..all three pieces were about $78..I'm sure they are not top shelf.
Also, Norm has a router show on last week that shows how to use the cutters...maybe it'll show in your area.
I would suggest a two piece matched S/R set over the stacked or reversible bits. And a panel raiser with out the back cutter. Definitely 1/2" shanks.
Got ahead of myself, You do have a router table with a variable speed 3HP router don't you ?
I prefer making the S/R's from 3/4" stock and the panel from 5/8" stock, that eliminates the need to back cut the panel. I use Eagle America bits almost exclusively. Available at http://WWW.eagleamerica.com
And yes, I do work there. But love the bits.
Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!

Steve,
Do you want shaper cutters or router bits? The most popular profile we offer is the Ogee but the most versatile is the Cove.

Ok, why is the cove more vesitile?

By varying the thickness of the stock you can vary the width of the profile without affecting the look. Also, a 3/4" stock panel raiser can be used for 5/8" stock. With other profiles, part of the profile is lost if you use a 3/4" panel raiser for thinner stock.
