Hello All, I’ve been meaning to build a Queen size storage bed for a friend of mine for some time now. I haven’t done it yet because Im having difficulty coming up with a design. The general idea is three drawers per side a headboard and footboard. He and his wife prefer a rustic ( knotty) look, so probably knoty alder for the headboard, footboard, and drawer fronts. The June issue of Fine Wood Working had a piece called “Add storage under any bed”, that showed alot of biscuit and plywood case construction. Id like to build the bed in two halves too, but without the plywood and biscuits. Id like the drawer supports to hang off the face frame, (so the top of the face fram would be the bed rail) and the face frame to mortice into the corner posts. Since the bed is going upstairs, it needs to be assembled on site. Instead of using bed rail hardware, I was thinking of through morticing and pegging the face frame tenons into the corner posts. Constucting the two cases for the drawers and putting it all together on site is where my brain starts to have trouble. I haven’t had any luck finding plans for what I’m trying to do. The project is my end of some “horse trading” so Im trying to keep compexity and cost down. That dosent seem to be working though. Anyone seen any plans that resemble the project I’m tring to do? Orseen a bed built this way? Thanks
