Hello.
I am just getting started in wood working and i have a simple question. I Live in Edmonton Alberta Canada. I have been told that it is not good to store wood outside or in my unheated garage. Something to do with the wood absorbing moisture. Is there any truth to this?
Thankyou in advance!
Mike

The humidity and temperature swings outside are likley to be somewhat bigger and thus cause more wood expansiona dn contraction. Wood movement can lead to warping and cupping and whatnot, but at the end of the day my experience is that this stuff happens anyway. I think you can store outside without a problem, though it would be a good idea to bring in any wood you plan to be using soon so that it can acclimate to your shop environment - especially with regard to moisture content - before you get to four squarin it for your projects.
