I recently built a stove hood copied from one of those brauns you can get at home depot and installed their hardware on it.Im kind of concerned about the “UL listing” and my liability. The thing is wired correctly and i would like to include this in future kitchens but i still have a nagging feeling that i shouldnt be going down this road.Any comments would be appreciated. george

g ,
Are you concerned about the hood itself or the cabinet surrounding it ?? If it is the wiring and electrical installation then , in many states your license generally will not allow you to do electrical or plumbing unless it is your own house .If a person was not licensed or insured they can be litigated . We can install ready made U.L. approved fixtures , but do no wiring for a client . Follow the clearances for cumbustible surfaces provided by the mfg . spec sheet .
good luck dusty
Thanks Dusty,It is the electrical thats bothering me.Even though i know the wiring/connections are okay i dont want any problems in the future.Maybe i will just get a licensed electrician for that part and call it done.g
I would imagine any electician would be delighted to get a call to hook up a vent hood.
It's about the easiest connection there is................. assuming the romex is hanging there, ready to pulled into the hood's wiring box.

If you were to actually use the whole hood and cover it in wood, then there's is probably not a problem(or, is there???)
"Vent A Hood" makes liners for custom hoods. We have used quite a few over the years. But, they aren't cheap.
There are also a few companies that make wood hoods such as Omega Industries Inc. Try here http://www.omegaind.com/php/products.php?p=pl&cid=282e:
