We are thinking about putting down hardwood flooring in our kitchen. After we take up our linoleum floor we will have 1/4″ plywood, then 2 old linoleum floors, and beneath that 5/8″ plywood. Would the subfloor of 1/4″ plywood, 2 old linoleum floors, and beneath that 5/8″ plywood be OK for laying hardwood flooring? We would like to leave the old linoleum floors instead of taking them up.
Any help here would be appreciated…

The sub-floor is a bit minimal but would work for 3/4" T&G flooring, laid perpendicular to the bearers, providing the bearers are at no more than 16" centers.

Ian,
"Bearers" meaning joists I presume? Thanks for your post...
