I am still in denial that someone is so ridiculous as to sell an empty box, and some other genius would spend $56 for it. I am dumb-founded.
Peace.

well it is in "mint " condition, high quality cardboard..LOLOL
I wonder if someone has e-mailed the guy that bought it and told him he just spent $50 on a box. wait a minute, maybe this guy might want to buy some of my old boxes first LOL. but seriously, we need people like this to make the rest of us look smart :)

What would the Stanley collectors pay for an equivalent box from, say, 1940, in mint condition, with instructions? I think this guy's just staying ahead of the curve.
That guy is so far ahead of the curve he's on the other side of it.

by the time that box is REALLY worth 50 bucks, it will be at LEAST YR 2100
I have one question...Why?
Sheesh.
I'll bet he can't wait to show his buddies.
Hey I got a Q tip I used to clean my table saws arbor with any takers the bidding starts at 10 bucks... Darkworksite4: When the job is to small for everyone else, Its just about right for me"
hell, i have five LN block plane boxes sitting on a shelf in in the shop. hmmmmm.
My wife said he wasn't ahead of the curve but ahead of the turd.
I looked in the completed auctions listings and found that the same seller also had a box from a LN beading tool for sale but nobody even made the minimum bid of $10. Apparently the market for empty boxes is stronger for some models than others. Let's all try to use restraint and not flood the market with our own boxes- it ruins the value. Like the old bull said to the young bull, "Let's walk down and...."
I'm holding the box and the literature that my Clifton plane came in until the market peaks. Should make a nice profit on it soon. I'm off to wrap it all in tissue paper and vacuum seal it,...... right now so as to maximise profit. Slainte, RJ.Link to RJFurniture site.
Maybe I should check with fine cooking site and see how much the cookie boxes are worth
Hey I still got the box my jointer came in Ill let it go for 50 bucks and Ill pay the shipping... Darkworksite4: When the job is to small for everyone else, Its just about right for me"
Sorry in advance I just can't resist.
1st guy asks: Does your wife wrestle?
2nd guy replies: No, but you should see her box. :)
I too have a box story. I bought a TV, video camera and the then 1st ever VHS, HQ, HI-fi, MTS stereo VCR on the market (JVC5000U I think). I wanted it bad enough to drop a grand on it. It was an advance display unit and they didn't want to sell it until after they were available. I said all or nothing boys, so they sold it to me. They couldn't find the box. I made a big deal about the box (I really do have all my component boxes in the attic) so they knocked $35 off.
What do I hear for a greymarket '76 Yamaha CR600 receiver carton, with the original Japanese only manual, styrofoam blockng, poly bag and twisty for the power cord. The bidding may begin at $500. I'll throw in the actual receiver (works great, never even blew a fuse) for another $50.John O'Connell - JKO Handcrafted Woodworking

I know why he spent $56 for that box. He works for the Federal Goverment as a Purchasing Agent. LOL
Maybe LN makes their cardboard out of some groundup rare imported Hardwoods ?
Recently, there were two #1 planes, with the original boxes, that sold on Ebay. One sold for $4000+ and the other went for $5500. Without the box, about $2000 is the best a #1 will bring.
I figure someone will start selling reproduction boxes, made to look old.
Another odd, one of a kind plane, just recently went for over $10,000. It can still be seen there. Search on "Stanley Plane" in completed items and sort by highest price.
