Suggestions for finding a home for a Thos. Moser rocker?
I’ve inherited a Thos. Moser rocker in mint condition but have no place for it in my home. It’s not easy to find a consignment shop that will take it, I’ve found, and it’s a bit too valuable for Goodwill. As well, any family who might like it are far away and expensive shipping would be in order because it’s so bulky. With a thought toward minimizing the bulk and thus expense, I did enquire with Thos. Moser if by any chance it had been manufactured with hide glue, but they did not respond. Either way, disassembly would be one of my last resorts.
So, I’m asking woodworkers: any ideas how to handle this piece?
Thank you 🙂

I wouldn't try to take it apart. It would never be right again. Beyond that, it's really up to you.
Contact moving companies in your area to see if you can piggyback the chair on their next move to where your family is. You may have to wait but they may accomodate you for a smaller cost than shipping a crate.
Hmm, interesting idea. I'll see how it pans out. Thanks :-)
@John_C2, I realize that's a possibility. I'd probably only ask a pretty experienced woodworker to undertake such a thing, and of course all told if I had to do that, might cost just as much to ship assembled!
Here in NYC there are small direct trucking companies that cater to specific areas... NY to FL, NYC to Long Island, NY to Boston, ect. I don't know if there are such things in your area.
