I mounted my 3 1/4 hp PC router in a router lift and now need a good, versatile hand held router. Does anyone have a suggestion as far as brand or model (or one to avoid)? I am thinking about a mid-size (around 1 3/4 to 2 1/2 hp) plunge router. thanks

I like my Bosch and my PC, although I had problems with the switch on my PC plunge. After 2 replacements, it finally seems ok.

Many choices, see link to narrow the field.
I really like my Dewalt 618. It is the 2 HP variable speed. I have the fixed base mounted in the table, I can drop the motor to change bits easily, or drop it in the plunge base for handheld routing.
I got the DeWalt 618 with the 3 bases. Great router. great price. love it.

I prefer the Porter cable 690, 1 1/2hp,reliable, three bases are available. If you are new to a router ,I would suggest a D handle. This and a plunge base should take care of your needs.
