Suggestions re small belt/dic sander (Rikon?)
I need to get a small combination belt/disc sander for light use. It would appear that these machines are compromises (versus larger, heavier ones) but I don’t need anything larger and have a space constraint. After looking at the specs and prices of what is available and reading various comments (nobody seems to be particularly happy with any of them), I’ve sorta zeroed in on the Rikon 4″ X 36″ Belt/6″ Disc Sander (Model 50-110). One of the reasons for picking this one is that I can see it in a store (an hour away) and take it home with me. Before I make the trip I’d like to know if any uses this machine and what your experience with it has been. I’m also open to hearing about other similar machines, either positive or negative. Thanks.

Just don't get the Ryobi
I got the 4 x 36 x 6 Ryobi at HD for just over $100, got it home and plugged it in and it ran for about thirty seconds before catching on fire.
Then I looked at the Ridgid 4 x 24? oscillating edge sander but didn't want to spend that much for such a small sander.
I ended up buy the Sears 4 x 36 x 6 belt/disk sander for about $120. I then modified it, removed the end shroud, mounted it sideways and built a stand with adjustable height edge sanding table. It makes no sense to me how one would use it as it comes from the store. This setup works OK and is under powered but will get me by until I can afford a Ritter.
Best wishes, Bret
