In issue 120 Kirt Kirkpatrick finishes a modest little table for a project. However not much was said about the table. I could probably come close to copying it but would much rather know some of the techniques and design dimensions. Any chance you could help or tell me how to get in touch with Kirt?
Thanks,
Jack
P.S. The name of the article: “Creating an antique painted finish”.
Pg. 64
Jack,
I can’t tell you why this question is in my inbox. I do not have access to past author’s contact information. You would be better served contacting David Heim or Matt Berger for this kind of stuff. I will be happy to go find the article in question and look it over and get back to you with my opinions on the table if you’d like.

Hi Jacknet:
Sorry for your trouble getting an answer. Unfortunately, we can't pass out contact information for our authors. It's our policy.
As for the table featured in that article, we have never covered the construction technique of that specific piece in the magazine. We often get questions like this when we feature a piece of furniture in passing, but there's not much we can do about getting dimensions or construction details.
From the looks of it, it seems to feature pretty standard techniques. The lower side stretchers are joined to the legs with through mortise-and-tenon joints. The front decorative stretcher joins to the legs with blind M&Ts, and features the decorative carving and beading. The drawer is through dovetail construction with the tails exposed on the front face. And the top appears to be attached to the base with the thick pieces that jet out from the sides.
We have a great article that describes how to size furniture from photos. You might try doing that from the photo in the magazine.

Our contributors in the Design. Click. Build. Blog have also demonstrated how to size furniture from a photo using the free design software SketchUp. Take a look, you might find it of interest.

One more thing. I deleted the other two questions you posted about this. If you have additional questions, comment to this thread.
Thanks,
Matt
Thanks Matt, One thing though, the two articles you showed me are for building plans off a picture that is a side view or some-what 3 dimensional. You can create a vanishing point and then work off that. The picture in the article we are referencing is a straight on shot. Any thoughts on how create plans from that kind of photo?

I was affraid you would ask me that!
Unfortunately I don't know a solution to the issue of having the photo head on.
I'm beginning to think there are only two solutions to this: design your own dimensions in the spirit of the photo; or I'll give in and track down the author.
The issue that article was featured in is old enough that I'm concerned we either won't be able to find the author or he'll have no memory of the table diimensions if by chance it was a commission.
I won't give up on this. Let me see what else I can do.
Matt
