Hi everyone,
I am currently making jewellery boxes with mitred corners, and I’m about to cut the corner slots to receive the splines. The problem I have is finding a 10 inch saw blade that will give me a flat bottomed cut to receive the splines. My current saw blades leave a small crown in the bottom of the cut. I have also tried triple chip blades but they leave a small bevel in the corners. Can anyone give me any advice?
Thank you – Neal.

Neal,
try a rip blade - I have a 30 tooth freud rip blade with all the teeth ground flat - came that way from the factory

Lee,Thanks for recommending a Freud blade. Just to clarify, we don't currently offer a 30T with flat grind. The most teeth we offer in that grind is the LM72R010 which is a 24T ripper with 1/8" kerf. For splined miters it would work very well.

Hi mapleman,
Thank you for taking the time to reply to my query, I appreciate your advice - Neal.
I have used the 8" version of the blade Charles recommended for exactly the purpose you need. It is perfect for that. Rich
Thank you for your further input Rich14, I appreciate your comments.

The only grind that leaves a truly flat kerf is the flat top grind..."FTG", which is traditionally found on a pure rip blade. Also be aware that some rippers use a TCG or ATB grind, which as you've discovered don't leave a flat bottom. ATB/R combinations with a raker won't leave a truly flat bottom either b/c the peaks of the ATB teeth protrude some.
A router bit might work too.

Hello Wood,
Forrest makes blade specifically for that purpose. I think it's the same as the WWII with a FTG. They also will grind blades with specific angles for things like dovetails (ie.10 degrees). I use a Forrest WWII then pare the bottoms flat with a good 1/8" chisel, works fine for me.
