in need of feedback on saw blades for the table saw. i am seeking to get better results on cabinet shelves when banding them & when using veneer core plywood, no matter how sharp my blade is, i still get slight tearout when ripping. i am currently using frueds lu84. i suspect i need to go to a Forrest blade. what do you all think?

I can't speak to the blade you mention because I have not used it, but I have Forrest WWII on my TS and can speak to that one. It's fantastic. It is a great combination blade. I get glue ready rips and cross cuts without tearout. On my RAS, I have the WWI which is strictly for cross cutting. If you do switch, you would not be dissapointed with the quality of cut with Forrest. Anyway that's my 2CW.
Best to use a HiATB grind blade with low or negative hook. The Freud version is the LU80R010. We also just introduced the P410 Premier Fusion 40T General Purpose blade which is also HiATB and does an excellent job in veneered ply as well as most every other wood or wood product cutting job.

How does that work on a miter saw? I have a DeWalt 12 inch (not compound) that is starting to give me tearout with the original DeWalt blade - a disappointment, since it has been very lightly used to this point.

Mike,The LU80R012 would be excellent for your miter saw. The HiATB and low hook angle make it an ideal choice. Another great option for the miter saw is the LU85R012 which has a double side grind to polish the cut edges glass smooth. We haven't yet produced the Premier Fusion in 12" but that should be coming in 2007.

Do you have a zero clearance insert? A wide mouth will definitely influence how the bottom edge comes out. How high is the blade?
Most high quality general purpose or combination blades like the LU84 or WWII give a "good" cut in ply, but won't do as good of a job as a specialty blade intended for ply. The old Freud F810 Hi-ATB grind is the best one I've used...it's now the LU80. The Forrest Duraline will be similar but will likely cost more. Ridge Carbide, Amana, and Infinity have high quality Hi-ATB veneer blades too.

The new Freud Fusion looks really good.
I am sure this was designed as a WWII killer. They are $99 !!
I have a WWII and look forward to getting the new Freud Fusion blade to compare.
You and me both! This is one of the more innovative blades to come along in a while.
Ditto CharlesM. The LU80 will do a superb job for you. Your LU84 is a good blade, but a combination blade, and shouldn't be expected to do the very best job.
Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!
