Here is a subject that I’m sure I’ll get lots of feedback on and thanks.
I need to buy myself a cabinet style of table saw. I used a General for large amounts of time in a shop that I worked in. Really was a joy to use!
Looking to buy a saw to stay in the shop and have to have a 50″ fence for sure. Need to know if anyone has any input on other saws. Keep in mind that I can’t get all of the makes. I do live north of the border and some companies just won’t ship to Canada. I also tossed around the idea of buying a 10′ Altendorf but decided small saw first and then a big boy!!

you cant go wrong with a General or Powermatic
Don't know what kind of prices you guys get slapped with as a result of the poor exchange rate, but from what I've seen any of the "popular" brands, i.e. Jet, Delta, Powermatic, General, etc. are all fine machines. I'd think that you'd probably get the best price with General, since they're made right there in the Great White North.
One question to ask yourself is "do you really want a 10" cabinet saw?" If you're drooling over an Altendorf, you'll never be happy with anything less/different even if it's gold plated and fur lined.

The Altendorf is the finest machine that I have ever used but space, money, and starting a new division of my existing custom home building business are all things that scream NOT YET!! At least with the small saws I can make a small initial purchase until things get rolling. The Gnerals are one great little saw and they price out really well.
I am going to buy the General just need a little shove. ( I think) I had the opportunity to buy a small Delta cabinet saw. It had been retro fitted with a 50" beismeyer fence and was in good repair. (cut really square) $500 Canadian, but I sat on it too long and the guy sold it. :0<
Thanks for the input.

You're right, the General is a very good saw. Have you considered adding an Excaliber sliding table? The large one allows 90 deg. cross cuts on full sheets of plywood.

General with a Robland slider gets my vote. I am difinitely impressed with the General Line as we have a dealer here in Atlanta. Some of the GI isn't bad, also.
Luck..
