I have a Laguna Platinum saw that got wet the other day. The top rusted in a good sized spot. How can I get rid of the rust and the dark stain that it puts in the metal??

Patina
You can get the rust off a dozen ways, fine sandpaper, steel wool, Scotchbrite, even scraping it with a single edge razor blade, which works quite well on small spots. Whatever you do will leave an area with a gloss and scratch pattern different from the rest of the table. The dark stain will be too deep in the metal to get out short of having the top reground. Best way to look at it is your saw just got its first bit of patina.
cast iron gets stains
As long as It's not blood stains it's OK by me. A light coat of paste wax keeps the surface somewhat protected and makes sliding the wood easier.
A helper left a coffee cup ring on the band saw table the other day. Oh well, I was glad for the help.

Saw top marks
Inboard,
A month or two ago I posted a similar cry for help. I used all of the usual tricks - the second best was some sanding-sponge blocks from Lee Valley. They took away the initial spot but as others have said, "the look is, and will be, different". Now that time has passed, I rarely notice the new patina on my saw table.
Frosty
P.S. Oh! About the BEST idea? Don't worry about.
