Hey John
I have a 20 year old 10″ shopcraft contractor table saw. Any suggestions on how I can retro fit it for dust collection? I am working in a basement shop and my wife is getting upset with all the dust. So i need to get a portable dust collector but my saw is not capable….
Any articles or suggestions would be appreciated
regards

To be blunt, getting good dust collection on a contractor's saw is more trouble than it is worth, especially if the dust is fine.
There are a couple of kits made that attempt to seal off the open bottom and back of the case and add a shop vac hose port, but they aren't very effective, there are too many gaps and openings that are left open. Woodcraft and Woodworker's Supply both sell fabric bags that hang below the case to catch the heavier sawdust, but the bags still miss a lot.
A modern saw, either a benchtop machine, some of the hybrids, or the Ridgid contractor's saw, all of which enclose the blade in a shroud that goes directly into a shop vac fitting, are far more effective at capturing sawdust.
