I plan on updating from a 10inch Craftman contractor saw to a cabinet saw and I am not sure which is the best selection. I am leaning to the Delta 36-L31X or the Powermatic PM2000. I would prefer to support the American worker by buying the Delta. All the tool reviews down grade the Delta for the arbor runout and they like the riving knife on the Powermatic. I have some woodworking experience and plan on building cabinets and furniture for friends and family in the future. The difference in the price in the two saws is not that big of an issue for me but I do want the best saw.

The policy of Fine Woodworking regarding requests for tool recommendations is to refer the questioner to the tool reviews in the magazine. This is done to avoid any bias, real or perceived, being read into the answer of the editor or "expert".
That said, I can help you by supplying some factual information. Delta started transferring their production to Asia several years ago and the process has probably accelerated since the company was purchased by Black and Decker last year. I don't know the origin of the Delta saw you are considering, but it is quite likely that part or all of it was made outside of the U.S. If you want to be sure of your saw's origins, you should contact Delta to find out where they are manufacturing the model saw you are looking at.
