Does anyone have any recommendation on a removable splitter for a cabinet saw? I seem to remember seeing something about a new one (last couple of months) that has come out. Anyone…Bueller, bueller?

Don't know anything about others but I have a Merlin that I got on sale at Rockler for less than $70 and I like it very much. Had to do a bit of "removal" under the stock throat plate for it to work to 45 deg. but it was pretty quick. The thing goes on and off very quickly and doesn't need to be readjusted.

Mack how did you remove that stock? I have a metal throat plate, and the job is a little intimidating.Regards,

Borisyeltsin,
I have a couple of carbide burrs (HSS would work as well) and chucked one of them up in an electric drill. I used a fat black marker to see where there was still contact being made; cranked the angle in until I saw the throat plate lift a bit then wiggled it around to leave a spot in the marker black. I only took out a little at a time as I didn't want to weaken the throat plate any more than was necessary. Whole process took about 45 min.
Wear safety glasses when using those burrs!! Had a close call before I remembered mine. A hot chip hit my face! A very fortunate wake up call!

I got the Biesemeyer, my choice was driven by the fact that I don't have to use the rear support which makes my outfeed table tighter to my top. I've had it for 7 mos now, no problems, works great.
If you're only looking for a splitter, just cut one out of sheet metal. You can get the dimensions, etc. off the old monstrosity that came with your saw. You know, the one you don't use now.
Steve Latta gave the how to about 1 or 2 months ago in FWW. I made one after reading his article and now I use one on a regular basis.
