Hi,
I’m in the market for a hybrid table saw so I was particularly interested in Tom Begnal’s article this month. One of the most important features, for me, is a riving knife – or the machine’s ability to accept one. I didn’t see any mention of this in the report – can you tell me if any of the saws reviewed have this feature – or, if not, what other alternative saws there are.
Thanks
Rod

Hi Rod,
I heard back from Tom. He said that none of the hybrid saws he reviewed have riving knives.
That will likely change sometime next year because Underwriter Laboratory (U.L.) has mandated riving knives, with a 2008 deadline for new products and a 2010 date for all existing models.
Several cabinet-saw manufactures have already added riving knives; among them: Grizzly, General, Jet, Powermatic, SawStop, and Steel City.
For more information, read magazine editor Asa Christiana's blog post about riving knives from the 2007 AWFS show: http://blogs.taunton.com/n/blogs/blog.aspx?nav=main&webtag=fw-editorsblog&entry=209
Thanks,
Gina
