If I make a table top from 3 pieces of 8/4 walnut ( 14″, 14″, 9″ wide), should I bother to put biscuits between the pieces?

Hey Gary.
Structurally, I'm not sure it makes a difference. That's a big glue surface and with the right clamping pressure and enough glue, it should hold fine.
That said, I love using a spline or floating tenons in cases like this because they can really help you align the parts during glue-up. You don't have to fuss around trying to get rid of tiny high or low spots along the glue joint. Biscuits would help similarly, but they have a bit more play and don't always give you that precision alignment.
