I’m thinking of buying an aftermarket blade guard for a Powermatic 66. Does anyone have any comments on the Biesemeyer, Exaktor, or Excalibur aftermarket systems?

They cost a fortune! Make your own like I did. Check out this link:

MFG 's guard is very nice and about $200 cheaper than the Excaliber that I have.
My saw gets moved around a lot. His guard is stationary.
My time is worth $50 an hour, I could not procure materials and make that guard in 4 hours.
I'd rather build furniture anyway.
I really like the Excaliber.

John,
Well said as always. I admire peoples ingenuity but I don't have time to be making something, that if I figure my time, is a whole lot more expensive than one from somebody that makes them for a living. My shop time is too limited. I'd rather buy readymade (and tested) and keep doing the part of woodworking that I enjoy.

My material total cost was about $35 since I didn't use SST screws, already had the fles tubing and I substituted plexiglass for Lexan. At work we have Bridgeport mills so it took me about 2 hours to make everything. Since I'm just a hobbiest, my at home shop rate is worth about $4.00...hey, I'll make you one for $200!!
Check FWW they reviewed these some time ago.I don't remember the issue.I have an Excaliber and agree with their report .
It puts a lot of torque on the extension table
Difficult for narrow rips
Great for sheet goods especially MDF in rips of 3 "or more
Jako,
I just so hampen to have that issue right here. Its Nov/Dec 2001 #152 and starts on page 76. Good report.

The Exaktor is a near duplicate of the Excaliber and costs less. If you dont like the head unit, you can remake one of your own design and still use the dust collection and solid construction of the tubing and mounts.
On this note about Table saw blade guards:
I want to build a blade guard (have all the parts and design worked
out for the support and dust pick-up) but don't want to mess with making the clear cover part over the blade.
Any suggestions for an easy solutions for the clear blade cover that
might work or where to buy one for a resonable price.
Jeff.
