Gentlemen,
I am trying to organize my woodshop into a small garage and to do this I need to shorten the rails on my tablesaw. I currently have a shop fox cabinet saw with 7′ rails and shop fox fence. The fence is a Bissemeyer knock off but works well. The issue is I can’t find shorter rails anywhere. I was considering just cutting the existing rails down to the length I need but this might take down the resell value of the saw. If I buy a whole new aftermarket system it costs around $500. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeremy

Choices
I'd say the choice depends on whether you are anticipating selling the saw in the short term. If not, the affect of cutting the rails isn't a big concern.
Of course, you could always sell the saw as-is, and buy a new Delta Unisaw with short rails. ;-)
You can buy angle iron and rectangular tubing online, cut to length, for a reasonable amount of money. Try onlinemetals.com, metalsdepot.com, or just Google. Alternately, look for an iron and steel dealer in your area. Measure what you got and then go buy the same size, only short.
But I'd think real hard about cutting the current ones. It really limits the saw. I went the other way, made longer ones.
Thanks for all the advice guys. I found a new setup online for $250 through amazon. I am considering just buying this new rail system and putting the old one on Ebay. What do you think I could get for my old set? $100 or less.
Sell?
Wouldn't selling the long rails defeat the objective of keeping the saw "original" for future sales value?
