I am going to upgrade my contractor tablesaw soon. I have been looking at many models and have narrowed it down to 2 grizzly models the 12 ” extreme GO605X or the 12 ” g5959 with the Swing Type Sliding Table. I have a 25′ x 25′ shop so I have so space but not a huge shop. I plan to use the saw for building cabinets. Any help with the pros and cons of each saw would be appreciated.
Thanks
Duane

Duane,
If you have the space for it and plan on building cabinets with sheet goods, by all means, go for the slider. An alternative would be a good (read Festool) circular saw.

Duane,
I can't relate specifically to the Grizzly models you mention because I have never seen them in person. But I can tell you some things without seeing them.
Anyone who is building cabinets without a genuine slider is working in the dark ages. I speak as one who did exactly that for many years, before I bought a full-sized slider (SCMI). You will never look back, except to wonder how and why everyone keeps plodding along with their standard tablesaws when the right machine actually exists and will pay for itself in time and accuracy within months.
I'm not usually this opinionated about woodworking subjects, but this one really is strange. In Europe the slider is the accepted norm, but for some reason the US woodworking market has remained largely blind to the obvious superiority of sliders, in accuracy, speed, and safety.
I am not speaking of the casual hobbyist, or the need for contractor's saws. I have a Powermatic which is fine for a few days of jobsite work. But if, as you say, you intend to make cabinets in your shop, the issue of whether to get a slider is a no-brainer.

Duane,
You are talking about a sliding attachment not a sliding table saw. The true European slider is the G0460. The add ons tend to be unstable when handling sheet goods. I wanted the Felder 500 when I bought my Laguna TS but the footprint is twice the size of a regular tablesaw and I did not have the room, width or length. Of the two you listed the G0605X is a much better saw for the money because it has a riving knife. I am not to sure about interchangeable arbors but you don't have to because Forrest has 12" WWII with a 5/8" arbor hole. I use a 5" stabilizer and it works great. The Festool plungesaw suggestion is exactly what I do. the cut off that sawblade is as good as any ts blade. I have not carried a full sheet of plywood to the table saw in four years.
