Does anyone know if there are existing plans available?

There are measured drawings for this chair in Tage's trilogy Tage Frid Teaches Woodworking, in the third part, called Furnituremaking. When it was originally published, there were three separate books. More recently they've been published as two books, or maybe even combined as one. You want to get the third book for the drawings, but I strongly recommend getting the whole shebang. There's lots and lots of good stuff there from a master.

Thanks for taking the time to post this info, I'll look those books up right now.
This will certainly save me some headaches!
By all means GET THOSE BOOKS!!! They were the best thing that happened to me in my efforts to teach my self how not to butcher wood. He was the greatest teacher of the craft ever.
Thanks I will... the first 2 volumes are rather easy to find, the 3rd appears to be rarer and much more expensive. I sent an inquiry to Tauton as to if they'd be reprinting the third volume, no response yet.
I found the third book at Barnes and Noble on the web. They may have to search a little for you, but they found me one in approx. 2 days and emailed me a selection of the books in various conditions for my approval.
Good Luck!
