I’m trying to locate the place to buy the bowsaw Tage Frid & Anthony Guidice both
use. Tried the Highland Hardware “Danish Bowsaw” and found it to be a Chinese
version of Frid’s, lacking screws for holding blade at each end and the metal brackets
at each end of the stretcher. If someone can advise me, the help would be appreciated.

I built my own after seeing Tage Frid many years ago. It is a very simple bit of woodworking. There are a couple of sources for blades, Garret Wade, Highland Hardware, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion. I realize I could build my own saw, and that is likely
what will ultimately result from this search. I own an Ulmia 600mm bowsaw which
works well, and I'm just wanting that extra bit of performance. The Frid saw
interests me because of the mounting brackets at each end of the stretcher. I
suspect they act as shock absorbers. The Ulmia uses a limewood stretcher for its
springy quality for the same purpose.
In my search for a bow saw similar to Guidice's, I came across web sites for several European tool sellers. At Dick Fine Tools (http://www.dick-gmbh.de) is a selection of 400, 500, 600, and 700 saws. There are several other sites as well. Shipping costs to the US and price weren't bad.
The US ECE distributor carries a variety of bow saw sizes and blades--he usually advertises in the FWW classifieds. Woodcraft carries a 700 mm Ulmia bow saw and a handful of Putsch replacement blades.
I hope this is of use to you.

Rob,
Thanks for the help. I'll check out the web site you suggested.

I recently purchased a very nice bowsaw from WoodJoy Tools to cut out Windsor chair seats. It might also work in your application. Try here:
