Hi:
I would appreciate some suggestions on how to take apart panel cabinet doors which were glued with Titebond yellow glue (aliphatic resin glue). I want to reuse the styles and rails.
Thanks in advance
Dennis

If it was Titebond glue, then you could try using moisture in som form. Maybe you could steam the door or something.
But if it was Titebond 2, then water won't work. You'll have to try heating the joints. Heat will eventually melt the glue.
House hold, white vineger should work. It works on most wood glues.
Good Luck! and lets us know how it gos.
sincerely. C.A.G.
I just took a drawer apart which was glued with Titebond II by pouring denatured alcohol over the joint. The glue had been in place for about 24 hours. I let it set for about an hour after the alcohol treatment and found the glue sticky but soft enough to pull the drawer apart.
Note: Please don't ask why I wanted to take the drawer apart!
If you set up a router edge guide, you can remove the back side of the stiles and rails that are holding the panel in. The panel then comes right out, and you can replace it with a new panel; glass, or whatever.
I do this to old doors in old buildings I get to work on. If you stain the new panel the right way, and add a good looking quarter round to hold the new panel in, it looks pretty good.
Good Luck rg
Talk to Titebond, their help line has been good to me.Acetic acid (vinegar)makes Titebond 2 rubbery and soft.I don't think there is much that dissolves it.I used photographic acetic acid as it is stronger than vinegar.Do test it for staining the wood before proceeding.
To All:
Many thanks to all of you for your advice. I’m trying vinegar right now and will call the Titebond help line on Monday. I had no idea they had that service.
I should have explained that these doors are made from some wonderful resawn old growth v.g. douglas fir that has 40 rings per inch. I just hate to waste them.
Thanks again
Dennis
DENIS364,
Sounds like some great wood. Glad to hear of another person getting away from "use it up and throw it away" syndrome! Good luck!

I'd throw them in the steambox for 30 minutes.
