Hi all Im in the process of finishing some cherry wood and I have noticed that the tanned pieces take stain better no blothcing and have the deep rich tones Im looking for. The snow is fling now and Im on a deadline my question can i haul this lumber to a tanning booth and tan the wood? will tanning booth uvs fill the need? or some other artificial source or do I need natural sunlight to tan cherry wood? Thanks .

The UV from a tanning bed will do it but this darkening continues for a year and more. No matter how heavy a shot of UV you give your cherry now the process will continue.
I really doubt this will actually affect the blotching. Rather, the darker cherry probably shows the blotching less. I use a conditioner when I need to stain woods prone to this blotching and most stores that carry stain will also sell conditioners.

Hi Vtwoodchuck, I've used lye to age cherry wood (easy off oven cleaner does it)
