I am doing a cedar chest and want to dye prior to final assembly. Are there issues with glue adhearance if the surface has been dyed. Should I tape off areas where there will be glued surfaces? I know that I would tape off for final finish, but was curious if Dye would have the same issues? My first thoughts are yes. Just checking on what others would do?

Hopefully someone with more experience with this will weigh in, but since dyes are absorbed into the wood and don'''t form a film on the surface like pigment stains, my guess is that you shouldn't have any gluing issues. I would think taping off would be rather fruitless as you'd probably get a lot of absorption under the tape anyway. Try it on some scrap pieces.
If you build it he will come.
Shouldn't be a problem to glue over dye, though I haven't actually done it.
PVA adhesive will work with a dyed surface. Just don't use an oil based dye. Waterbased or alcohol is fine.
Be sure to let the dye stain fully dry.
