Taper chuck for drill press for 8″ to 16″ swing drill presses, vintage Delta/Rockwell. The seller says it is Jacobs taper. Are there different sizes of Jacobs taper.
Which is more correct
1. there are many sizes and one has to measure to see if it fits
2. there are only one or two sizes so if it looks like it will fit at a picture it will fit.
There is a small vintage Delta drill press without a chuck for sale in my area. I have a half-inch chuck with taper fit at the center. If I could use it I may be interested.

Their are many different Jacobs chuck tapers, JT0 thru JT6 and JT33. I have my dad's 50's vintage Delta drill press and it uses a JT33 taper chuck. The taper is marked on the chuck. My guess is the you need a JT33 or possibly a JT3 taper chuck.

Grizzly has a decent explanation of tapers and chucks in their catalog which you can access on line. You can also call them and they can help you get everything matched up so it all works. I purchased a keyless chuck for my 16 1/2" delta drill press about a year ago and it is the best thing I've ever done for my drill press. Much easier to use and the bits never slip. IMO, drill presses shouldn't be sold without one. I hated using my chuck key all the time. It was always hard on my hands and too time consuming. Go and get one, you won't regret it.
