Hi – when you buy high end hinges, like those from Brusso, they give you one steel screw to insert in the hole to size the pilot hole before you drive in the brass screws that come with the hinge. This helps prevent the brass screws from snapping. I use a lot of small brass screws and usually end up losing the few steel ones i have. I have seen a tool that looks like a screwdriver but the end has screw threads on it. (Not a machine/metal tapping tool). I don’t know what it is called but i assume it is for prepping holes for screws. Has anybody seen anything like this for small screws – like #1 through #4 size screws? I’m tired of snapping off brass screws in hard to reach spots, even when a proper pilot hole is used and threads waxed beforehand. If it exists, I imagine that there would be a set of these tools for different screw sizes. Anybody know of these and where they might come from? Thanks in advance! Rick McCarthy

You could just epoxy some screws of the required sizes to screwdrivers / shop made handles
if I don't find any I may try that. epoxy isn't real strong in twisting/shearing forces but it might be strong enough for that use thanks!
A gimlet can help. For brass screws i put a steel screw in first then soap or wax the brass screw.
That's it! just looked them up in LeeValley and that seems to be exactly what I need. don't know why I didn't think of that. thanks for the input!

You need to use a vix bit, then use the steel screw, and the finally the brass one.
