Has anyone found a task light that has a strong enough magnet that will stick where placed. The ones I have bought stick well when placed in the vertical position but don’t stick as well when using the side magnet or even on iron if it is painted.

I use these. The swivel magnet is very strong.
The little ones have strong magnets, too, and clips.
They charge fast, last a long time, and are very bright with modes if you don't need blinding. I've had them for a couple of years now, and they're like new still.
Although they are expensive for lights, they are high quality, and I would replace them immediately if something happened.

Now that is indeed a clever approach. Will have to get one of these.
Harbor Freight has a new one I'm pretty impressed with. I took the clamp off the magnet as soon as it came out of the box, but the magnet is VERY strong.
I picked up the icon series task light from HF. Really strong magnet, 800 lumens. I can mount it sideways on a drill press or bandsaw with no issues. For my bench, I added a magnet on a 3/4” dowel, drop that in a dog hole, and stick the light on top of that. This light gets used almost daily.
Very happy with this:

Another option is a light into which you can fit a battery from any battery-powered tool range you have spares for.
I have a Bosch FL12 12V Max LED Worklight, for example, as I have a number of 12v Bosch tools and plenty of spare batteries that'll go in this light.

The more methods the light has for mounting in various ways, the better. A strong magnet is also important - some are rather feeble. Happily the Bosch fills all those requirements and also has a two level light output.
Thanks. I don’t think one light will serve each of my needs so I am going to buy a couple of these that ya’ll suggested.
