I’m making some cabinet doors for a bathroom reskin- maple ply slab doors with a 3/8 teak banding. I haven’t done anything with teak since high school back in the late 70’s. I think I remember using Resorcinal glue with Teak. What is the best glue to use to bond teak to the edge of 3/4 ply?

You clean the mating surface of the teak prior to gluing with acetone to make the surface less oily. Resorcinal will work, plastic resin glue, hot hide glue( I never cared much for the hide glue in a bottle, but maybe) Smiths makes an epoxy called "Teak and Oak." For an epoxy it is pretty forgiving and has a fairly long open time. I've been experimenting with Titebond lll to see how far I can push it for extreme situations and the jury is still out on that but I think as a banding it should probably work.
Thanks much. I had forgotten about the acetone wipe down. Gonna try a sample with the bottled hide glue, I got lots of that. A lot less hassle than buying & mixing the resorcinal
That type of hide glue does have a shelf life. I have purchased it new from hardware stores and it was already no good. You never know how long its been on a store shelf. I like to buy from places that do high volume. If the glue has been in the store for 6 months and I like to dump stuff like that after about a year......!!
thanks. Did not know of the shelf life.
