They are the same thing. Totally enclosed fan cooled motors (TEFC} are found on some induction motors, some induction motors are open drip proof motors.You could use the open drip proof on a tool that sees little dust. Most power tool induction motors use TEFC .Induction motors are found on table saws, jointers etc. ,drills,routers, benchtop planers use universal motors. Universal motors have brushes and generally used on small power tools.
