tension spring for grizzly bandsaw
I have been procrastinating replacing my grizzly 14″ band saw’s (mdl # g0555x) tension spring. Does anybody know what the dimension are of the spring? I will admit that I’m being lazy and don’t want to take the band saw apart to measure it, reassemble it for use, order the part, and then disassemble, etc…..
any info. will be greatly appreciated. thank you

Hi Chris:
I suggest you call Grizzly --

I'm almost afraid to ask, but.... What in bloody blue blazes did you do that destroyed the spring?? Unless it was faulty right from the factory, it should last and last. If you're aiming for THE top quality spring, contact Iturra Design (sorry, they do not have a website), but they are located in Jacksonville, FL.

i didn't do anything to destroy the spring...i just wanted to replace the factory spring with an aftermarket spring.....from iturra design. i have their catalog and there is a vast assortment of springs to pick from. I was just wondering if anybody out there has replaced their spring so i wouldn't have to take my saw apart to measure the existing spring... i think i'll call grizzly tomorrow to see if they have that info.(i didn't try today since it is Sunday and Mother's day)
Do you have the owners manual? Many of them have parts info (part numbers, ordering info, etc)
It used to be that there was only one size spring and it fit all 14" bandsaws, both the Delta and the Asian clones. Many of the newer saws come with an improved spring, if the spring you have now is painted rather than just a dark steel it is probably a heavy duty version.
Also, if you back off the tension and look at the spring through the slot in the housing, under a good light, you can probably make out the shape of the wire that the spring is wound out of. The weaker, old style springs were made from round wire, the stiffer springs are made from a square shaped wire.
