A while ago I found, on this forum, a link to Michael Fortune’s article, “Tensioning the Bandsaw.” I’ve searched thru the Knots forum, including a web search but nothing came up.
Does anyone know this link? I’m in the middle of major maintenance on my bandsaw and I’d like to use his guide for tensioning.
Thanks,
Buster B

I did a search at FWW.com and the only article I found that seemed a candidate was Five Tips for Better Bandsawing from Issue 173. A quick mention of the 1/4" deflection technique was all I saw.
If you're a member, you can find the article here:

Buster: Go to the "saw mill creek" website and do a search on band saw tension. There just was a huge thread about it and the guy who wrote the band saw book ( Duginski ( sp?) ) bantered back and forth with a bunch of people. It was very enlightening. They talked tension gauges you can buy and the bandsaws tension guage. There is a lot of good information on that topic.

While just before dozing off to sleep I remembered that I was a subscriber to FWW around the issue date, Dec 04, of that article. This morning I looked thru my mags and found the article. DUH.BTW, I did search through SMC as I am a member there as well. One of the great things about that site is they have a google engine so I can create a very specific search string:
"michael fortune" +bandsaw +((tension | tensioning)) | tuning)However, it did not display anything with a link. Thanks,
Buster
