Bones & all,
Thanks for all your help with sliding table saws. Yesterday I went down to Bellingham and closely examined Grizzly’s G0623X saw with a 6′-6″ slide. I took the whole saw apart and came to the conclusion that it was what I wanted. So I ordered the last one in stock! I paid the extra $32 for the liftgate option (no brainer for me without a forklift or equivalent).

Congratulations! You won't be disappointed! I made a few mods on my G0623X. I put UHMW tape on the fence, aluminum just wasn't as slick as my old Biesemeyer fence. I also changed out the blade guard for a Felder clear blade guard. Even though I know what's going on under the blade guard, I liked the see thru guard.
The liftgate option was worth it for me too! Also, if you need to put it on wheels, I bought the Rockler all terrain mobile base, it's solid and works quite well for me.
Thanks, Jointerman
I'm glad you found this thread, as I think I wrote "Bones" instead of "Jointerman" - must have been thinking about the ribs planned for dinner! Shh... don't tell Bones.
I was considering installing my Delta Unifence from my contractor's saw, as I wasn't particularly impressed with the feel of the fence. It felt fine, but not as nice. But I also know that I will have a really hard time selling my Delta without a fence, and as is, I could probably get $500 for it. I would like a mobile base. The guy at Grizzly thought I was nuts to want to mount it on wheels. I think I will make a custom mobile base with all swivel & locking casters and make it as low to the ground as I can.
I ordered the parts for the eccentric hold down from their larger saw. To make it fit, I will just need to file about 1/16" off the side of the clamping block. I tried to order the ripping shoe, but they were out of stock of a couple important parts. By the way, to order either of these two accessories, I needed to order every individual part (for the eccentric clamp, it's a Ball knob, Handle shaft, Cam, Cam bracket, Roll pin, Locate Block, Ext retaining ring, Compression spring, Shaft, Hex nut, Washer, Shaft, Handle Shaft, Lock Handle, Block, Disc Gasket, and T-nut).
Bummer that you had to order accessories as spare parts off of another machine model. I will likely look at getting some of the Felder ripping shoe. I didn't see the eccentric hold down, I'll have to look for it. I'd love to know how it works.
The Rockler mobile base is quite good. The Rockler base comes with really nice swivel and locking casters. I'll post some pictures if you want. Keep us posted!
congrats
Don't forget to post a review (with pic's if you can). We all love new toys, even if they are sombody else's!
Uh-huh!
You know I will!
slider
Wow, sliding over to the dark side, eh, Chris? ;-)
Looks like a great saw. Congrats, and have fun.
There are two kinds of people...
I have a small white board on my locker at Lee Valley where I write whatever I feel like. Today I wrote: "I WENT TO LOOK AT THE MAJESTIC GRIZZLIES YESTERDAY AND ADOPTED A 6'6", 600LB GRIZ. SHE'S A REAL BEAUTY!"
Some got it, some didn't.

I had one at high school here in Chicago.. I wrote on my locker..in 1950,, I love the way you wiggle as you walk...She became my wife.. She was the perfect wife and mother,,,
How...?
Will,
How did she know you were talking about her?
adopting Grizzlies
That's cute. So, are you going to name her? "Stands with Claws", tanslated into the local tribal language might be good if you're a fan of "Dances with Wolves". Or, maybe "Ms. Adams" if you're a fan of old TV shows. ;-)
Better not buy two more Grizzly machines
If I bought two more Grizzly machines, would that make me Goldilocks?
I don't have a name yet. Mama Bear, maybe? There's got to be something better. Think: sliding table, powerful, potentially dangerous...
I don't know anything about Dances with Wolves or old TV.
Happy for you but confused.
Chris,
Congrats!
I have a whole slew of Griz stuff but I would love to have that slider. The Grizzly green is an appropriate color due to my envy.
I must have missed the thread leading up to your decision to by the slider so I'm a little confused. I didn't think you were planning to build cabinets. I thought a slider was best used for cutting up panels and is why I want one. I'm curious why you chose this saw for your work and how you plan to use it. Am I wrong about it's intended use or are there other reasons to own that saw other than cutting panels?
Thanks, Bret
Cabinets... ew, kinda.
Bret,
There have been many threads in the past few years discussing the merits of sliders, which I gleaned information from which gradually led to my purchase. The thread that had the greatest impact on my decision to buy this particular saw was this one:
Unpacking my new Grizzly G0623X!!
Sliders are unrivaled for cutting up panels, I agree on that. But I think that they are also great for crosscutting in general, not to mention straight-line ripping (I've assumed this term means putting the first straight edge on a work piece). I have always struggled with large crosscuts, never finding a miter gauge to be that accurate, a sled cumbersome, and a miter saw sometimes not large enough. Some examples of where I would use it with solid wood would be trimming the ends of table tops, tapers, and straight-line ripping. I have a small shop, and most of my stock I work with is less than 6' long and 2" thick, so this is a nice size for me.
The saw does have a scoring blade, so it would be able to make nice, clean cuts in that plywood with awful, thin veneers that splinter if you look at them funny. I occaisonally use plywood, mostly for shop utility cabinets. So the slider will see some plywood.
I got notification that it shipped today.
thanks Chris
I'll add that slider to my "Dream" list.

G0623X on Mobile base
Sorry it took me a bit, but I didn't really get any shop time over the Memorial Day Holiday. The support legs on the slider are thumb screws, I only have them setting on the shop floor if I will be using the slider. The base is steady enough that I often only lock the two non-rotating urethane casters.
Thank for the picture of the eccentric clamp. It does look handy. As a side note, there is an extra handle with a T-nut that is supposed to be mounted on the side of the slider, I didn't really find it useful, so you can always use that as a T-nut for some type of hold down.
Very Nice!
Oh, that mobile base looks great. I think I will have a mobile base custom made - welded up with heavy gauge angle iron. I want to use four swivel casters for maximum mobility.
Delivery is scheduled for this Friday. I will leave it in my garage until I get my shop cleaned out (including getting the old table saw out of the way). I would also like to get a mobile base and drop it onto the base from the skid, all at the same time.
Moving saw to base
Good idea, dropping the saw onto the mobile base from the pallet was key! Otherwise I would have needed a lot of help!
