Thanks to you all for the great advice. Much appreciated. In the class I’m taking I’ll learn the setup and use of various power tools but for now, my hands hurt from chiseling mortises by hand using a mallet and chisel. Builds character he says- shows me how it used to be done until such a time comes when I’m using mostly power tools. But I see where he’s coming from. Nothing like a piece of furniture hand made to appreciate man and what he can do with an old tree. No better way to immortalize the tree, huh? And the artisan for that matter.
Thanks again everyone. Mike “newoodworker”

Mike glad to hear that you are enjoying your class. For what it is worth hand tools will always give you a better fit and finish than any power tool will. Not to say that a shop full of power cords is not a good thing though.
Good lucky with it.

Mike,
I like to take it back one more step. "Nothing like a piece of furniture, hand made to appreciate......" God, and what He can do with a piece of old clay. He can create a man, that is capable of doing that with an old tree.
I wish I had taken classes years ago. I'd know more now, and have fewer scars on my fingers. Hope your classes go well.
