I usually won’t buy anymore tools but ,,, it was Fathers day and it was an old time tractor and tool swap meet ,, gosh the rest just happened .
here it is , not sure how I have lived so long without it
the screw is over 2″ diameter and the threads are tight and hold fine
I softly asked the vendor how much for the nice old leg vise it was late on the last day , he replied back ” how bout five bucks ” dang man I couldn’t get that five out of my pocket fast enough.

Cool. Looks like a $5 bargain to me.
Nice find. Is it a user? Reminds me of the story about a guy who found and Emmert at an estate sale. The guy in charge didn't know what it was so he said he'd give it to him for $20 or something like that if he could tell him what it was!

Yup , it seems to tighten up snug , the block behind the rear post is also threaded and well attached .
There is some dry rot on the very bottom , but surprisingly the posts are in fair condition and appear to be Oak and still flat and straight between them.
I may try and splice a new foot or shorten the posts then re attach this bolt that looks like it was through bolted and notched into the rear post .
That is the first thing I have bought in a long time , I've been good but I am a total sucker for a large clamp , vise , anvils , old hammers , and anything especially interesting looking .
I am going to try and attach it to the end of my main cutting table corner and use it , I'll turn a handle first , hey maybe Orchard Walnut .

Nice find Dusty.. they aren't hard to build if you have teh wood tapping set but.. at $5 you saved a bunch of time even if you had a thread cutter. Money well spent on your part.

Morning Sarge ,
Yeah , thats what I thought , even if I happened to have a tap and die for 2 1/4 " wood , which I don't . I may try and rework the old wood since it is still flat and straight the wood screw and it's threaded block are still Skookem .
regards dusty
The good news is it was not only cheap but.. a fun little side project to do tween big un's...
