A while back I posted some pics of my bench. I had entered it in the local guild booth at the woodworking show in atlanta and the most frequen question that was asked was “do you actually use it”. I guess a lot of people thought it was a show peice. I never built it with the intention of showing it but to use as my main bench so , as proof I offer the following pic.
The piece on the bench is a tool chest that will go in a beatiful antique rose engine. (ornamental lathe) The original was missing so I am getting as close as I can to the original from pictures. The drawer fronts will be crotch mahogany veneer with cockbeading. I don’t know how faithful the construction details are to the original butthe look will be correct. It has been a fun piece to build so far. I haven’t had much call for hand dovetailed drawers in a while. Nice to do some again.

It's a beautiful bench. I'm more amazed that you actually move it (it must weigh a ton) to show it.

As you know, I've seen the bench in person at the Atlanta WW Show. Now I know what it looks like cluttered. It still is one of the finest I've personally seen in over 30 years now.
Sorry to see the seminar at Highland Hardware on building Morris Chairs was canceled. I think the big factor was not all that many could enroll for a 3 or 4 day seminar during the week. That's hard to do when working. Regardless, your efforts do not go un-noticed. From what I've seen of your work, you are one of the most talented, energetic, up-and coming craftsman I have seen come along in a long while.
Keep up the out-standing work that you produce.
Sincerely...

Tom, the bench is great... but I have to admit, the photo is causing me a little "shop" envy. So much light (natural?), so much space...

davemoore,
I'm with you, all that light, a wood floor, lots of space....and a drop dead beautiful bench.....envy !!!
The mallet looks a bit heavy....lol
The shop is a pretty nice space. It has some natural light but not as much as I would like. Most lighting is from (8) 8' long fluorescent fixtures mounted at about 13' high. The shop has seven 5' tall windows and a 6'0' double entry door with windows. The wall are 10' and it has a vaulted ceiling that peaks at 16'. Dust collection is run under the floor. The shop is attached to the house via the garage. Needless to say, I have a very understanding wife.
Sarge, thanks for the kind words. We only had three people sign up for the class and I just couldn't justify that much time for so little income. I don't think it would have covered my gas money. We may try again sometime. I have taught a class there before and it was quite enjoyable but it is a huge time commitment and hard to do with a young family.
