I don't know the book, but I doubt it. I think you'd be better off gluing up scrap stock, with a few different glues.Money better spent.
Get the book. It also teaches you the proper orientation of boards and other very useful info. What's more valuable to you, the $37 or the time figuring out why your glue-up warped on you!
I agree with benchdog. The first tool is often a book. Learn how to search with google as most questions have already been asked so it's just a matter of looking up the already answered question.
Hacker,
This is an excellent book, worth what you pay for it. It does a lot more than just teach you about how to stick wood together -- it gives you insight into the reason glue works, which ones work for which reasons, how to detect well-made glue. It gives you a full understanding about the science and application of glue.
I've written a lot about this book, as I became a big fan after reading it. I have three reviews that might help you. One is here on the Finewoodworking Forum, the other is on Amazon.
Here are links to my reviews:

thanks,,,,,will buy on your recomendation...............
Whoa! I checked for it on Amazon, and they have it priced at $69.95!! A typo? Where did you find it??
[edit] Weird, I just Googled on it, and the Amazon entry showed $37.95. Saw another couple of hits at $19.95 and $14.86. Here's the search.

yea,,,the prices are all over the place.....maybe more of an investment
I suggest taking a look at "Understanding Wood" by Bruce Hoadly. He discusses gluing and how it actually works (microscopic level). It's interesting how the stuff you can't see affects what you can. He includes stuff that wasn't so obvious to me, even after going through gallons of glue in my time. Plus, it's one of the books I often go back to for other woodworking issues/questions.
Generally speaking, I'd say buying a book or two first will usually save money in the end.
Best Regards,
Tony
