Hi all, I am looking to make a conference table impervious to customers forceful writing habits(ink pen impressions). I’ve had good luck w/Minwax Polyshades (one step(3-coats) stain+polyeurathane) on my oak coffee table-about 10 years now w/out a scuff.
I recently refinished the conference table w/ Polyshades Bombay Mahogany & a test piece of stock( Cherry wood Vineer over (MDF?)PB). After 3 days drying I was still able to make a pen impression. The local paint store rep here in San Diego said the voc content has changed since I refinished my coffee table and the newer Polyshades won’t get as hard as the older stuff. Right or Wrong, before anyone touchs the recently finished Table I’m considering putting a Bartop coating at least 1/8″ over the table. I don’t know who has or makes what I’m looking for or even know what it’s called. Please help.

There is a product called "mirror coat".
Check this link:

It is self leveling and crystal clear. Just pour it on.

My thanx to you,Scottvelie~ I will check that out!
I also found a merchant in San Diego(John Greer & assoc.) that has a similar product, I'll look into that also.
Scott,Lee Valley sells an epoxy polymer coating kit for $33.50. Would probably be perfect for what you are after. If you don't have a Lee Valley catalog, order one. They sell things I've never thought of or imagined.
Hi Jake's Dad,
If you're a member of San Diego Fine Woodworkers Association (http://www.sdfwa.org) you might want to ask some of the members about this at the next meeting.

Jazzdog,
I'm not a member, but I will check them out.
Thanx for the tip.
There is another product called 'Bar 50', simulating 50 coats of finish in one step. It used to be available at Home Depot, but it has been a long time since I used it.
