I’m shopping for a matched set of rail-and-stile router bits and have a quick question for you all. With most of the sets I’ve looked at, it appears they might work better on stock that was at least 7/8 inch thick. For those of you who do the cope-and-stick thing on your cabinet doors, do your bits work okay on 3/4 inch stock, or do you prefer using something thicker? Thanks.

Sounds fishy. It doesn't make sense that a cope and stick set would not be optimized for anything other than 3/4" stock.

I usually make my doors 13/16ths though the bits will certainly do 3/4" stock. In my experience, the extra thickness helps them clamp up flatter/squarer. 7/8" stock would only help in that regard but you'd have to live with the extra door thickness.

Dave,
I use CMT bits and sets from Sommerfeldtools (http://www.sommerfeldtools.com) The Raised Panel set I have ( p/n: 800.527.11, $244), while it doesn't say anything in the catalog, on the box they come in, it indicates the are for stock from 23/32" - 7/8". HTH...

HI Dave the main reason for different stile and rail thickness7/8" or 3/4" has to do with the thickness of the panel . 7/8" allowes a 3/4" raised panel to be flush
with the face of the door . a 3/4" thick stile and rail allows for a 5/8 raised panel to be flush to thedoor face
good luck mark
