Has anyone had experience using the Grizzly G1021x2 Thickness Planer with an Helical cutterhead? Good or bad experience and any recommendations. I am in the market to for a new 15 inch planer and asking here for any recommendations about this machine or others.
Thank you in advance.

I don't have any experience with the Grizzly, but respect the brand as a solid mid-range performer. I have lots of experience with the Powermatic 15HH and couldn't be more impressed with it. It has a helical head with the cutters at a slight angle so it slices versus chopping at the wood, it has two speeds for feed rate, fast for initial thickness and slower for finish planing and Grizzly serrated infeed rollers. I know it costs more, but Powermatic almost always runs some kind of "doorbuster" Christmas sale of 15% to 20% off. That brings the price to within a couple of hundred buck of the Grizzly. Money well spent IMHO.
PS The PM is built like a tank. The real bargain would be to find a used 15HH and just rotate or replace the carbide cutters.
No experience with that model, but other models are severely back-ordered. Might be a long wait..
In stock delivery in 5 days........balony and slicing it thin
The Grizzly G0453Z has served me well for just shy of 10 years with no sign of slowing down. An area to be aware of on floor standing machines in the outfeed rollers. The G0453 and others use a serrated steel roller. I don't recall the make/model but, someone is using rubber outfeed rollers on their floor machine. For folks used to lunchbox/finish planers the surface result can be a surprise.
GeeDubBee thanks for the feedback. You are correct about the outfeed roller. The machine comes stock with a flat steel roller and there is an upgrade rubber roller. I have ordered the machine and the rubber roller. Thanks for letting me know about your experience.
Dont kniw that machine but I have one of their 12" combo jointer planers with a helical head. It works well. However I put a Byrd Shelix head on my delta dj20 8" jointer and the grizzly helical head is not nearly as good of a cutter. I dont know how the geometry compares between their different helical heads but it something to keep in mind.
