Does anyone know where I can get hardwood in 1/8″ thickness with widths up to 10″? Most places I’ve come across offer either veneer which is too thin or 3/4″ which is too thick.

Try http://www.thinwood.com
Josh is the owner I believe. He can re-saw to your desired thickness. I ordered some ash, and if the net length is less than 7', I believe you can get it shipped UPS.
He has lots of figured wood, and is great to work with.

Thank you very much. I'm going to his website now.
If there is a veneer manufacturer in your area you can buy backing boards, these boards are basically what is left over from slicing, they run around 1/2" to 5/8" and are usually clear and unexpensive.

Any idea if there is a listing of veneer mills or manufacturers?

Alan,I am not aware of such a list but there must be a veneer manufacturer's association.C.
Rockler carries thin lumber:

For the prices they charge you are better off buying 4/4 and planing down to whatever thickness you want.
I am a little disgruntled with Rockler, they advertise free shipping and they hit you with a $9.99 handling fee !
I buy my hardware from White Chapel, as a professional I get 25% off and the service is excellent.
Of course I wouldn't dream of buying lumber on line.C
Oh, it's true they're not cheap! Can you use a planer to take wood down to .2"? I thought I would need a drum sander to do that.
Yes you can, there is a little trick though, e-mail me personally and I will send you a sketch.C.
Veneer companies can slice up to 1/8". It is not that unusal that they do for manufacturers. You may have to contact them and make a special order.
Another option is the one I always choose because you do not have a stretching of one side and compression on the other. You can resaw thicker lumber into thinner strips.
